How Your Flower Photos Can Look Like the Photos Made By Professionals

Do you like to take pictures of your garden flowers? Then my guess is you prefer a nice, sunny day. But I will tell you something (my first photo tip here): It is actually often better if you take those flower photos on a cloudy day. There is still enough light and it has a very different quality than the rather harsh direct sunlight. On a cloudy day, the light that is there brings out the best in the flowers – softer, more gentle.

Here are a few more photo tips to make your subject stand out and look their best in your photographs. Professional photographers use these methods all the time and create great results.

You don’t even need the professional photo equipment that they use. That alone can cost you several hundreds or even thousands of dollars.  Here are some ways you can take you own flower photos, for little of nothing:

If you don’t have enough light on the subject, like a flower in a very dark corner, use a mirror, or attach some aluminum foil to a piece of cardboard. Hold it up so that it provides the additional light that you need to bring out the subject.  This will help to focus the attention on those flowers that you are trying to showcase with your digital camera.

With most digital cameras, there is a zoom function that comes with it. This can be used to get a smaller portion of the background included in the picture. If you used a wide angle setting, you would get more of the background. As you’re zooming in, you will have a better chance of avoiding distracting stuff behind your subject.

Another way that you can get interesting pictures is by putting your subject in front of the sun.  It should be strategically placed so that the sun is right behind the subject. Then you can get nice transparent effects with certain kinds of flowers.

These were a few tips on better photos. Just like the professional photographers have learned all the tricks of the trade, so can you. You too can learn how to play with the available light when taking pictures of flowers and such items. You will be amazed at the results you can get with some practice.
