Algarve Temperature and Climate Soundbites
The Algarve temperature is one of the highest in Europe with plenty of sunshine even in winter. Rainfall is quite low and falls mainly in the winter months. In the summer rainfall is very rare. The Algarve is among the most popular tourist destinations in Portugal, its population more than doubles in the peak holiday season thanks to a high influx of visitors.
In March and April the Albufeira climate is mild with temperature ranges of between 11 and 20 degrees celcius and in August and September temperatures are between 20 and 28 degrees celcius. Rainfall peaks at 72mms in March with the dry season setting in in June with little rainfall falling untill September.
In the western Algarve temperatures are generally cooler in the day in summer and warmer in winter than in the eastern Algarve. At night the west is warmer in the winter than the eastern Algarve and in the summer cooler. This is caused by the moderating effect of the Atlantic ocean.
The Praia da Luz climate in November and December has temperatures between 8 and 19 degrees celcius where as in July and August average temperatures increse to between 17 and 29 degrees. Lagos’ economy, like many coastal towns in Portugal, has always been closely linked to the sea, and fishing has been an important activity since very ancient times.
