Doing Tasks For Nanna
Next month I visit my grandmother. I anticipate visiting her, even if she has become a bit obstinate in her later years. I will not embarrass her by sharing her years, but let us simply say she is a woman with exhaustively practiced wisdom.
The last time I visited her I brought my portable Yamaha keyboard so I could play her some music. She relished it, but regrettably since she’s not entirely there, she kept interrupting me to inquire of me how to clean her computer. Yes, she actually uses a computer. And maybe she was interrupting me because I’m just that bad at performing with the keyboard.
I constantly find something bewildering at her home when I visit. Last time, I found many books on penny stocks on her cocktail table. My grandma learning about penny stock trading? That’s nuts. I wonder what I will discover on her cocktail table this month.
This time will make for an active sojourn. I must put in her fresh Emtek door knobs and air conditioner filters then repair her garden cart. I also have to bring her old pots and pans to charity as she recently purchased a fresh collection of pots and pans to supplant them. As a reward, she claims to also have purchased the best of the cheapest ice cream makers and the greatest of all the electic coffee makers. I appreciate it, but I also must laugh softly as she always claims to have or use only the greatest of this or that.
If everything proceeds well, she will employ both to serve me some delicious java at dawn and ice cream in the afternoon. This sounds like more than reward enough for my effort. I’m happy to help her out for nothing, but a little rich coffee and sweat ice cream does not hurt.
