Join Individual Power on the Interweb
One of the great things about the web is the capability to get information from such random sources at the touch of a button. It’s like being able to search a massive library and get your answer quickly. Like most things, when business starts to kick in the real potential starts to show. For example if you are purchasing, you can go to websites and find out which onlineseller is selling at the best price. It‘s a shopaholic’s dream really. But you can use the web for finding any product really however uninteresting. For example, when I went abroad recently I needed to buy travel money . So I went online, searched google and found the provider with the best deal and currency exchange rate.
Anyway, that’s why I believe that the internet has shepherded increased consumer power. That can only be a good thing for visibility and transparency – the ability to not be fooled by sales messages, and blinded by big players. It helped me find my travel money at a smaller and less well known shops; but at a much better rate. The internet has also made independent companies thrive – it is the entrepreneur’s dream. Your idea may be noticed up by a bigger company, but there is room for several big boys at the top. In the world of film rental , there are several key players – let’s see if they can live at the same time.
People power on the internet is also about passing messages. It’s now possible for me to put an article up on the web which can be picked up on the other side of the globe as soon as it is up. So we can pass comment and be heard – we don’t need a newspaper or a journalist to fight our cause. On my financial news blog I like to point out issues which are of importance in the world. I have got quite a loyal readership and feel that I have managed to reach communities that I could not have done some decades ago.
