If you are interested in news and comment and I asked you to describe general reports found on a normal topic, what would you think? Come on. Tell me. Want me to make a guess? You see general reports as news that is latest and is put up for the general public containing marketing for people in general interested in books, or, you may imagine general news as global news that all the people in the world can relate to. For instance, the latest oil spill is general news because it involved so many countries, or perhaps the past slow-down, since it upset more than half of the countries in the whole world. If you imagine that, then you are correct with what you regard as general news.

For a much better description, general news is a type of news that is written for the common people. This means, everybody can read it. As a writer, it is hard to write all-purpose news that is as you must analyze on matters that not only people in a some area can relate to, but people all around the world can connect with. The two mentioned above are obvious, since many countries are affected. However, it is not a daily news that a bank messes up its funds, or when an oil spill occurs, threatening almost half of the population of the world’s marine organisms.

So, as a writer who is tasked to write general news, you need to think carefully on what you are going to write about, and you need to do extensive research first. This is because your viewers is the whole world, there is no space for mistake, and if you commit one, or write something that is untrue, then it will surely affect the daily paper that you are writing for.

All in all, when writing blogs about everything, you should be wary of two very simple things, your topic and relation to the whole world. So, whatever occurred in Hawaii that isn’t something major isn’t worthy for general news.
